Romania became an independent country in(1877-1878) after a war with the Turks.

There are many famous people from Romania. Some of those people include Nadia Comaneci who was a gymnast in the Olympics, Sebastian Stan, who is an actor, and singer Inna.
Romanians are the people of all Romania and also of Republic of Moldova. Romanians live also in the territories occupied now by Ukraina (North Bucovina and South Basarabia), in Serbia, in Macedonia and many other countries.
Romania has approx. 40 000 Germans. Some other citizens learned the German language but the number is unknown.
There have been numerous important people in California. Some of the people were Steve Jobs, Julia Child, George Patton, and Richard Nixon.
Some important dates in Romanian history include the unification of Wallachia and Moldavia in 1859, resulting in the creation of modern Romania in 1862, the Great Union Day on December 1, 1918, when Transylvania, Bukovina, and Bessarabia joined Romania, and the fall of communism on December 25, 1989, marked by the execution of Nicolae Ceaușescu.

When food was rationed in the war, it was expected that ALL people complied. Most important people did but I am afraid that human nature being human nature, a black market did develop which would have been used by some normal and some important people.
Romania is a member of the European Union from 1 January 2007; this affiliation was not approved by the Romanian people after a plebiscite. It was only a decision of some corrupt politicians.
