St. Nicholas day (December 6th) is the day when the children place their boots/shoe in the window for candy or a "Virgács" (willow switch) depending on if they were naughty or nice. Christmas Day (Decenber 25th) as well as December 26th are traditionally both used to observe the holiday, and the gifts under the tree are usually delivered by "Jézuska" or the baby Jesus.
In Hungary, Christmas is celebrated on December 24th, known as Christmas Eve, when families gather for a festive dinner and gift exchange. The second celebration occurs on December 25th, Christmas Day, which is a public holiday marked by church services and family gatherings. Some also observe additional traditions on December 26th, known as Boxing Day.
Christmas markets are a big part of Christmas celebrations in Germany. At these markets you will find holiday foods, gifts, and decor. Other Christmas celebrations in Germany include Advent, decorating the Christmas tree, and exchanging gifts on Christmas day.
The 24th of December is Christmas Eve. While Christmas Eve is the most important day of the Christmas celebrations in the Northern Hemisphere, Australians don't celebrate Christmas Eve at all.
