The US Government does not practice any religion. Only a person can practice a religion.

However, it is correct to say that the US is founded on the principal of religious freedom and based on Christian ethics.

Under the United States Constitution, the treatment of religion by the government is broken into two clauses: the establishment clause and the free exercise clause. While both are discussed in the context of the separation of church and state, it is more often discussed in regard to whether certain state actions would amount to an impermissible government establishment of religion.

The politicians that we elect to Congress can hold religious beliefs. Some are agnostic, some are devout, other fall into the middle ground. All major faiths are represented in Congress.
