The Cascade Range runs parallel to the west coast of the U.S., starting in northern California and extending through Oregon and Washington. The Sierra Nevada mountains are also located parallel to the west coast further inland, mostly in California.
The mountains that run along California's coastline are the Coast Range Mountains. The tallest mountain in California is Mount Whitney and the range that separates California and Nevada is the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
