There are ten (10) time zones covering North America.

The French possession of Saint-Pierre et Miquelon, off the southern coast of

Newfoundland, is on Greenland time (GMT -3) as is Greenland itself, except

for a small portion on the eastern shore near Iceland which is GMT -1. No part

of North America is GMT -2.

[Note: According to the World Factbook of the United States Central Intelligence

Agency (CIA), Greenland is definitely part of North America.]

The island of Newfoundland is on Newfoundland time (GMT -3.5).

The Maritime Provinces of Canada (New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nova

Scotia), as well as Labrador, the eastern part of Quebec and the eastern portion of

Baffin Island (Nunavut) are on Atlantic Time (GMT -4).

Continuing westward, there is Eastern time (GMT -5), Central time (GMT -6), Mountain

time (GMT -7) and Pacific time (GMT -8).

Most of Alaska is on Alaska time (GMT -9), except for some of the Aleutian Islands

which are on Aleutian time (GMT -10). (Hawaii time is also GMT -9.)

The Dominican Republic, Bermuda and the Lesser Antilles are on Atlantic time.

Cuba, Haiti, Jamaica and the Bahamas are on Eastern time, as is Panama.

The remainder of Central America and most of Mexico are on Central time, but there

are smaller parts of Mexico on Mountain and Pacific time.

Canada, the United States, and the Mexican cities that border the U. S. observe daylight saving time from the second Sunday of March until the first Sunday of November. Most of Mexico observes daylight saving time from the first Sunday of April until the last Sunday of October.

Parts of the Mountain, Central, Eastern and Atlantic time zones stay on Standard Time all year.

Mexico is in only the Pacific, Mountain and Central time zones. The United States is in only the Hawaii-Aleutian, Alaska, Pacific, Mountain, Central and Eastern time zones. Canada is in only the Pacific, Mountain, Central, Eastern, Atlantic and Newfoundland time zones. The Pierre & Miquelon time zone is used on Saint-Pierre & Miquelon, a group of islands off the southern coast of Newfoundland that are owned by France.
