Thetis the ancient Greek goddess and mother of Achilles makes it clear in the Illiad that she needed no weapons for the favors the gods and goddesses granted to her at her asking; these included Hephaistos and Dionysos, both of whom she had given refuge in the sea as they faced crises of youth, and Zeus, whose throne she had protected by summoning the giant Briareus when the gods had sought to bind him. Hera herself favored Thetis for raising her and in Thetis refusing to be seduced by Zeus. When Achilles was wounded or fell she took him away to the island Leuke ( Elysium) and made him immortal.
