After the conquest of Mexico by Spanish conquistadors in 1521.
Hernan Cortes
18th century I believe... Spanish control and enslavery of the indians began probably as early as the 1500s though. The battles between the Spanish and the Aztecs and Incas I believe took place in the 1700s.
Several Spanish conquerors (or, 'conquistadores') led Spain's campaigns of conquest in the American regions of Mexico and Peru in the 16th century. Foremost was Hernan Cortes (1485-1547), who was instrumental in the conquest of Mexico, although others would complete the work that he began. In Peru, it was Francisco Pizarro (d. 1541) who led the primary campaign that brought most of the region into Spanish control.
noche triste.i am a APUSH student, and literally just read this out of my textbook :"On the noche triste (sad night) of June 30, 1520, the Aztecs attacked, ..."
The Spanish brought diseases such as smallpox that the natives could not cure, so more natives died from disease than anything else. Also, the Spanish had more deadly weapons such as guns. The Spanish began by cultivating the trust of the Aztecs and then destroyed their empire.
Hernando Cortez was the Spanish commander who conquered the Aztec Empire and thus began the Spanish conquest of Central and South America.
In the 1500's, Spanish conquistadors began their systematic shipments of gold captured from Native American empires. The two main tribes were the Aztecs and the Incas.
The Lutheran church began in the 1500s.
Spanish settlers from Mexico.
The Mayas (not Mayans) lived and still live today in the Yucatan peninsula of southern Mexico, in Guatemala, in Honduras, El Salvador and Belize. The pre-classic period of Maya history began around 1100 BC, the classic Maya period began in around 250 AD and Maya civilisation ended around 1519 with the Spanish conquest. The Maya culture disappeared but the people did not.
Hernan Cortes built the city of Mexico City over the ruins of Tenochtitlan, the capital of the Aztec Empire. He destroyed much of the original city during the Spanish conquest in the early 16th century and began rebuilding it in 1521.
