History records that for the most part, immigrants during the early part of the 20th century and in periods earlier, took blue collar jobs. The fields most open to them were in factories and construction. They also were "junk collectors" and house painters. I can say that as my family came to the USA in 1906 and those were the types of jobs they held. This was the case with most immigrants.
