Mussolini's idea of "an axis around which nations could assemble": The Axis Powers is a term for the alliance led by Nazi Germany and between that state, Italy, and Japan during World War II. The three major powers referred to the axis as the Rome-Berlin-Tokyo axis. The term was first used by Benito Mussolini, in November 1936, when he spoke of a Rome-Berlin axis in reference to the treaty of friendship signed between Italy and Nazi Germany on October 25, 1936. Later, in May 1939, this relationship transformed into an alliance, dubbed the "Pact of Steel".
No, Hindenburg is Germany & Mussolini is Italy. Mussolini was Il Duce in Italy & has no connection with German politics as such. Hindenburg was reluctant to support Hitlers accession to the Chancellery in Berlin.
Mussolini's downfall was primarily precipitated by Italy's military failures during World War II, particularly the disastrous campaigns in North Africa and the invasion of the Soviet Union. His alliance with Nazi Germany increasingly isolated Italy and led to widespread discontent. In July 1943, Mussolini was ousted from power by the Grand Council of Fascism, and later arrested by King Victor Emmanuel III. Following Italy's surrender to the Allies in September 1943, Mussolini was rescued by German forces but ultimately captured and executed by Italian partisans in April 1945.
