People in Pompeii loved gladiators! They had a big arena called The Amphitheater which was used for battles, they took slaves and criminals and had them fight Lions and Gladiators, they also had to kill each other. The last one standing asked for mercy by raising a finger, the crowd would then cheer or boo to show there opinion but the decision was made by the director of the games. The director gave a thumbs up thumbs down signal to identify mercy, if thumbs up the man or woman was awarded by becoming a hero on the other hand if a thumbs down signal they were to be dead.
There was also a theater called Palaestra. This was used for musical performances and concerts, it was also used for plays.
