A mediator is someone who facilitates communication and negotiation between parties to help them reach a resolution to their disputes. They remain neutral, unbiased, and goal-oriented in guiding the conflicting parties towards a mutually agreeable solution.

According to Article III, Section 2 of the Constitution, the US Supreme Court settles disputes between states.
The Judicial branch settles court cases (disputes between individuals). That is not their only job though. They also interpret how the law is to be upheld and carried out.
