The major "industry" in Colorado is probably the federal government. The North American Air Defense Command (NORAD) installation is at Cheyanne Mountain, and the Air Force Academy is at Colorado Springs. In Boulder we find the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The United States Geological Survey (USGS) and the United States Mint are in Denver. There are other large federal institutions in this state as well. Colorado has diversified considerably as regards its economic picture. Mining of gold and molybdenum continue, and there is a lot of farming and cattle production. We also see activity in food processing, transportation equipment, machinery, chemical products, and tourism. The capital, Denver, is also an important financial center.
