Although the union never occurred, a flag comprising equal widths of black, red, and gold was established. The three colors were the same colors that appeared on the uniforms of German soldiers during the Napoleonic wars

The current National Flag of Germany has three horizontal lines. Black, red, and yellow. Black on top, red in the middle and yellow on bottom. This flag was used for West Germany after Germany had split into two nations.

There's also East Germany's flag, which looks like the current flag, but with the East German Coat of Arms in the middle.

There's also the Nazi flag, which is red with a white circle in the middle a swastika in the circle. This flag was used as the German National Flag from 1933-1935.

Also used between '33-'35, another flag was used alongside the swastika flag. This flag had three vertical lines, the top one black, the middle one white and the bottom one red.

Between 1946-'49 Germany didn't have a national government or a flag, so they were issued the international maritime signal flag that represents a "C", and had a sparrow-tail cut out of it. This signal flag has 5 horizontal lines. from top to bottom they are blue, white, red, white, blue.
