Maine's state seal is a silver shield with pine tree on it. A moose is lying at the foot of the pine. On the left side of the sield is a farmer resting on a scythe, and on the right side is a seaman resting on an anchor. In the foreground, representing sea and land, and under the shield is the name of the state in large Roman capitals. All is surrounded by a crest, the North Star. Maine's state motto is in a label resting between the shield and the crest in small Roman capitals.
