Zambians eat a wide variety of foods. The national food is Nisma, which is a thick dough eaten with a sauce made from beans, vegetables, or tomato soup with a meat. It is made from cornmeal, but can also be made from casava or millet. Breakfast usually includes tea and bread, sweet potatoes, or rice. Chibwabwa (boiled pumpkin leaves) and Ifisashi (any green veggie mixed with ground nuts) are also common foods. Fresh fruits and veggies are common in the rainy season when they are available. Beer is the favorite beverage.
