Cherries are a summer fruit. In North America they are in season from June until August. Peak time in Europe is June/July, and late December (their summer) in Australia.

The prime season for cherry ripening is in the middle of summer. In the northern hemisphere from July to August. In Australia, New Zealand and the other temperate countries in the southern hemisphere, they ripen around December.
Winter goes from June 1st till the end of August.
Although in Italy most fruit is available all year round as with most western countries, certain fruit is more available from season to season. For example, Sicilian red oranges in winter and melons in July.
