Murray cod are actually very tolerant of rising salinity levels. As a matter of fact, aquariums which keep Murray cod add small amounts of ordinary sea salt to the water because it imrpoves the health of the fish and minimises bacteria in the water.
Salinity of water increase by evaporation.
An increase in the salinity of seawater results in an increase in density. This is because the addition of salt (salinity) adds more mass to the water without significantly increasing its volume, leading to a denser solution. Consequently, higher salinity water is heavier than lower salinity water, impacting ocean circulation and marine life.
the amount of salinity in the water and high temperatures
What happens is, the high salinity water (hyper tonic solution), mixes with the low salinity water (Hypo tonic solution), and eventually the sodium and chloride ions will slowly move into the lower salt water, and create a uniformly salty water.
You could increase the salinity of the ocean by adding salt or removing water (ie: by evaporation).
As salinity increases, hydrometer readings also increase. This is because a hydrometer measures the density of a liquid, and higher salinity results in a denser solution due to the dissolved salts. Therefore, as more salt is added to the water, the hydrometer will float higher, indicating a greater salinity level.
runoff from land
Two natural processes that increase salinity are evaporation and the inflow of saline water. Evaporation removes water from oceans and lakes, leaving behind dissolved salts and increasing salinity. Additionally, the inflow of saline water from sources like rivers, groundwater, or seawater intrusion can contribute to higher salinity levels in freshwater bodies.
Salt is dissolved in a smaller volume of water.
salt a decrease in temperature and an increasue in salinity
Buoyancy is the ability of an object to float in a fluid. The salinity of water affects buoyancy by increasing the density of the water. Higher salinity water is denser, which can increase the buoyant force on an object, making it easier for objects to float.
Decreasing the temperature, evaporating water, or adding more salt.
