Every year the same thing at the time of the summer rains. The metropolitan areas of large cities face flooding that depriving shelter thousands of people, and injure and even kill many others. Usually the biggest losers are poor people from poor neighborhoods who have no safe and ideal for housing, being at the mercy of the precarious urban city.

The floods, today, are the result of a long process of modification and destabilization by human forces of nature that accompanies the rapid and unplanned growth of most cities.

Major causes of floods:

High rainfall in the region

Deforestation

Siltation of river beds

Rectification of rivers. In nature, the rivers with a considerable volume of water are curvilinear, or walk like a snake. This path decreases significantly the speed of the water. Rectify it means increasing your speed, which aggravates the situation on bottlenecks (conversion of water)

High degree of soil sealing for asphalt surfaces and concrete

Growth and disorderly occupation of migrants

High degree of poverty on the outskirts of town, making it impossible for people to have resources to dispose of garbage, for example

Lack of awareness and environmental education administrators and the general population

Omission of the government in urban management and lack of proper sanitation.

The floods, most often occur as a result of human action.
