Also in Milwaukee, the Bayview massacre was a labor march for better working conditions that led to the implementation of the 8 hour workday. During this peaceful 1886 workers' march, the National Guard was called in with orders to "shoot to kill" the marchers. The tragedy called attention to the plight of workers everywhere.
