Some people think it is nice to celebrate patriotic holidays, but not necessarily important. Others think it is important as a show of patriotism.
There are lots of celebrations in Ireland. People celebrate events like St. Patrick's Day, Easter, Christmas, birthdays, wedding anniversaries, weddings, confirmations, first communions, births, baptisms, retirements etc. Often there are one-off celebrations, like for a significant anniversary of a place or institution. There are celebrations for successes, like an individual or team winning a sporting events. There are many other kinds of celebrations too.
Some people think it is nice to celebrate patriotic holidays, but not necessarily important. Others think it is important as a show of patriotism.
British people like all parts of Ireland. British people visit Ireland on holidays and for other reasons, and even move there, to all parts. What you may be thinking of is Northern Ireland being part of the United Kingdom, but that has nothing to do with what parts of Ireland British people like or don't like.
There are lots of important people living in Ireland, far too many to list. AMongst them would be the president of Ireland, many sports people, musicians, artists, people involved in world politics and campaigning for important issues such as tackling poverty.
In general, when people talk about the importance of holidays we usually tell them that it can help us relaxing. Beside that, does it have any other use?
Well to be honest, she's not important to Ireland. She might be important to English people that live in Ireland but not to any Irish people. Technically until a few years ago she still owned a chunk of the midlands, but we got that cancelled.
Holidays of various kinds have been celebrated as long as there have been people to celebrate them. Holidays provide a much-needed break from normal life, and such a break would have been very important for the early people.

Irish people celebrate all sorts of things, many the same as others in the world. Things like weddings and birthdays and anniversaries. They celebrate successes in something like sport. They celebrate events like Christmas and Easter. Ireland has national events, like St. Patrick's Day.
