There is no such thing as the United Kingdom of America. There is the United States of America (USA) which has 50 states. The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (UK) is a completely separate country which has 4 parts (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland).

I guess you could say the Danelaw ending is the closest thing to gaining independence in the British Isles but that wasn't the United Kingdom! The Danelaw happened and ended long before the United Kingdom was formed. :P
