Reason for faith? The gods were their way of explaining the world around them. For example, if there's a storm, Zeus (sky god) is angry.

Who Thomas Aquinas and what did he believe about reason and faith?

Thomas Aquinas was a medieval Catholic philosopher and theologian, known for integrating Aristotelian philosophy with Christian doctrine. He believed that reason and faith are complementary rather than contradictory; reason can lead to truths about the natural world and help understand faith, while faith reveals truths that surpass human reason. Aquinas argued that both are essential for a complete understanding of reality, asserting that faith provides knowledge beyond what is accessible through reason alone.

Are faith and reason necessary for Christian belief?

I am not sure quite what you mean, because I take "faith" and "Christian belief" to almost the same thing. Perhaps this may help. There seem to be three components to faith - reason, experience, and will (volition). It will be difficult to develop any sort of Christian belief if you cannot satisfy your reason that the faith is at least possible. In addition, your experience can reinforce your faith, but if you do not act on what you believe, that is, your will is not involved, then you can hardly be said to have faith in something.

Can faith and reason coexist?

Faith is belief that does not require proof, while reason is the intellectual faculty by which conclusions are drawn from information and the understanding of that information.A relationship can be seen between these definitions in the belief of some in a Supreme Being. Faith may tell some that God exists, while reason tells others that there is no God.
