Kolachi -- named after an old woman called Mai Kolachi, who was the head of the villag Cbr>

The name of Karachi is derived from KROCHAY. This is Cutchhi word. It is learnt that when the area was surveyed by the British Government, the surveyors had asked two fishermen in English as to what place it was where they are fishing. In reply they said KROCHAY. Actually that was not correct answer to the question of the surveyor but since they did not know English language they asked them in Cutchhi language as to what they said(in Kutchhi language when we ask some what did he say we use word KROCHAY) The surveyor thought that they are replying to their question and wrote the name of Karachi as KROCHAY, As such the old name of Karachi is actually KROCHAY.
