Rouging corn is when a team of workers walk through the fields to find plants that are a darker green shade and are slightly taller. They then cut out those stalks. It is tough but fun work.

I was promoted from detasseler to rouger while living in Illinois. For a teenager it is a great summer job and requires some physical stamina. We would walk the rows of corn with our hoes digging out every undesirable plant that was in the vicinity We occasionally had "hoe downs" which were various feats of skill and aptitude performed with the hoe!
