Im a farrier in northern Indiana and I charge anywhere between $20 to $30 for a trim depending on the type of horse and $60 to $80 for shoes. I also charge gas fee for me comming out to their pasture.

Farriers can either make a lot of money, or be right at U.S. average. The first factor is if you work for somebody or if you own your own business. The second factor is where you work. Farriers who go to school and work standard 8 hour days in urban or rural environments will make around $40,000. The way to make money as a farrier is to take your practice to a race track. The track that I'm at, the farriers make upwards of two or three hundred thousand a year. They get $100 a head and will do anywhere from 8-20 head a day, 7 days a week, for 8 months. Then they take the winter off or go to another track. However the farriers who do regular 8 hour days in urban environments get around $30-$35 a head and do not work weekends and take holidays off.
