Perhaps the oldest paper in history was papyrus paper from Egypt. Papyrus grows around 3 feet high with a long woody flesh stem and about 2" diameter around. Strips of the stem were peeled off and interwoven. Then placed in a tightened press and left for several weeks to dry. In ancient Egypt they were placed between two heavy flat rocks. So after enough time passes the strips become a solid flexible writing material, paper and now unable to see the actual woven strips of stems from the papyrus plant. Also in other countries you can find other forms of paper such as banana paper, made using the same technique. The papyrus paper could be rolled into a scroll and carried easily from Lower Egypt to Upper Egypt to deliver news from the Pharaohs.
