The slave ship that is often associated with the transportation of enslaved Africans to Guyana is the "Zong." This ship is notably remembered for the tragic events in 1781, when the crew threw overboard enslaved individuals to claim insurance money. However, many other ships also transported enslaved people to Guyana during the transatlantic slave trade.

"The Middle Passage" is the name of the voyage which brought slaves into the new world. Henrietta Marie was the first and only slave cargo ship that was wrecked.
It is noted that William Clark did have a slave, whom he brought with him on his expedition with Meriwether Lewis. The name of the slave was York, an African-American.
African slaves in Guyana would have come from various locations. A lot came from the Congo region, but my understanding is that the majority were Akan people, from the region today known as Ghana. This would make sense as Guyana was ruled by the the dutch for most of the colonial period. The Dutch built many forts in Ghana so it would have made sense to get most of their slaves from there. Also, the Slave rebellion in Guyana was led by a slave known Kuffy, which is probably derived from the Ghanaian name 'Kofi.' His second in command was a slave known as Atta which is also a Ghanaian name. Also, Kenkey is a food dish from Ghana which is also traditionally cooked by a lot of black families in Guyana. It is cooked the same way and has the same name (just pronounced slightly differently)
The journey of Africans who were brought as slaves to the Americas is known as the Transatlantic Slave Trade. This was a brutal and inhumane system where millions of Africans were forcibly taken from their homelands and transported across the Atlantic Ocean to be sold as slaves in the New World.
The Berbice Slave Uprising took place in Guyana from 1763 to 1764. A house slave name Cuffy organized thousands of slaves to revolt against their masters. They burned down plantations and effectively removed the white population from the area.

Slave owners gave their slaves their last name to assert ownership over them and to reinforce the slaves' status as property rather than individuals. This practice also helped slave owners keep track of their slaves and maintain control over their lives.
