These are SPATS - short for the original name Spatterdashes; short gaiters intended to protect from mud.

Um, if that is how you want to wear it you can. But in my greatest fashion sense I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT! I think this because black in color of clothing and shoes goes with everything, but with linen pants NO WAY! Try more like cream or white shoes.
