It's a carnivorous fish that lives in fresh water steams in South America. Also known as a Carribe.

The origin of the name piranha is not clear. The "pira" part may well originate from (pirá) a word for fish in several South American native languages. The other part of the name may originate from a word for tooth (sanha or ranha) or devil (ánha)
