What is the national dress of Bahrain?

The national costume differs between men and women.

The men's costume usually consists of four parts: a simple shirt called baju Melayu, which simply translates to 'Malay shirt' (often made of silk, or sometimes cotton or polyester) ; a pair of trousers made of the same material and usually matching colour; a sort of embroidered kilt called a sinjang; and a black or dark-coloured type of fez hat called a songkok.

Women generally wear what is called baju kurung which means 'enclosed dress'. It consists of a head scarf (called a tudung) and a dress (which can come in one or two parts), and together cover the entire body save for the face, hands and feet. The dress and scarf are often brightly coloured and have varied patterns.

The national costume is worn at various functions and official events, as well as many government workplaces.
