I'm not aware of an official plant of Santa Clara in Cuba, although after the city was founded on July 15th 1689 a mass was given under a Tamarind tree signifying the birth of the city. The area is now known as Loma Del Carmen or Carmen's Hill. The Cuban national flower is the White Mariposa or Butterfly Jasmine which was used by Cuban women to pass messages to the battlefields during the wars of independence. It symbolises independence, rebelliousness and purity. The Cuban national tree is the Royal Palm, symbolising the enduring spirit of the Cuban people. It is strong, tall and can withstand the most violent storm force winds of hurricanes without falling. Although it is not indigenous to Cuba it is found throughout the whole landscape.
