Indonesia was colonised by the Dutch, Sinagpore and Malasia were are various points occupied by the British. Macau was a Portugese colony and Hong Kong was British until 1997.
Hong Kong became territory of the British Empire after the opium war which ended in 1942. During the pacific war (the part of WW2 carried out in the pacific ocean) it was occupied by Japan. At the conclusion of WW2 in 1945 it was again under British control until 1997 when China regained sovereignty.
The first opium wars between China and Great Britain in 1839 resulted in the island of Hong Kong being occupied by British forces in 1841. The island was officially ceded to Britain under the Treaty of Nanking which resulted in the island losing its independence. After the treaty was signed, Hong Kong became established as a crown colony with Victoria City named as its capital after the ruling monarch Queen Victoria.
