  1. Present your valid drivers license or picture ID such as a passport to the seller at a gun shop, pawn shop, gun show or outdoor store when you select and decide to purchase a rifle. You must be 21 to purchase a rifle in Oklahoma.

  2. 2

You will then be asked for your social security number, citizenship status, phone number and address. The seller will record this information. You will also be asked if you have had a felony arrest. You cannot purchase a firearm in Oklahoma if you declare you have a felony arrest.

  3. 3

The seller will then call or use a computer to access the National Instant Criminal Background Check System. The NICS is a computerized federal system that can determine if a person is qualified to buy a gun. If the check determines you have no disqualifying features you will be able to purchase the rifle immediately.

  4. 4

If you are buying a handgun, automatic weapons or suppressed/silenced firearms, you will be required to wait 5 days after the NICS check before you can purchase the handgun.
