Local government is broken up into three classifications Depending on their size they are either Cities, Towns or Shires.

Further division of the Local Government Area varies, in some the area is broken up into wards, and elections are held for the wards, in other the Councillors are elected to represent the whole Area.

Sometimes the Mayor is directly elected and sometimes they are elected by the Councillors after an election.
