What is the value of a 1872 Newfoundland penny?

I just bought low quality F-12 1908 Newfoundland 50 cents on e-bay for $4.00. Mintage for this 11.78 g 0.925 silver coin was only 140,000.Similar US or Canadian Coins minted same time , same quality with less silver and higher mintage are much more expensive.

With all coins the condition as well as how many were minted and if there are any varieties determines a coins value.

The 1941 Newfoundland has a variety. There is a plane & a re-engraved date. The Re-engraved date is worth more but even the plane one has value.

I gave my spouse a Newfoundland penny, from the early 1940's, for their coin collection in the early 1990's; at that time they had a book that placed the coin's value just over $2.
