The World's Columbian Exposition - also known as The Chicago World's Fair - was a World's Fair held in Chicago in 1893 to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus's arrival in the New World in 1492. This was the first great victory of Tesla's Alternating Current Electricity. The exposition occupied 630 acres in Jackson Park and the Midway Plaisance. The main site was bounded by Stony Island Avenue on the west, 67th Street on the south, Lake Michigan on the east, and 56th Street on the north. The Midway Plaisance, a narrow strip of land between 59th and 60th Streets, extends west from Stony Island to Cottage Grove Avenue. President Grover Cleveland opened the Exposition by switching an electronic key shortly before noon, May 1, 1893. Undoubtedly the most popular attraction among visitors to the expo was the debut of the Ferris Wheel. George W. Ferris invested $25,000 for a concession in the Exposition. Then with other investors, he spent another $250,000 constructing the enormous wheel in the Fair's midway. Yes! I have one, bought it from an Austin TX dealer who specializes in World's Fair memorabilia. Mine is about the size and color of a penny but not responsive to polishing. I teach American art history and use it as a teaching aid when we talk about the great Chicago fair. karen_pope@mac.com

I collect these clocks. The value depends on the condition, and the variation of the clock. If the clock is in fair condition the value would be about $100. Excellent condition with the acorn weights and time weight would be about $150 to $200. If it has the advertising plate or has an original shipping create, someone may be willing to offer $300 at auction. the "Columbus Clock" was manufactured starting in about 1892 by "The Bostwick and Burgess Mfg. Co.", located in Norwalk, Ohio. They made between 10,000 and 20,000 of the clocks and they were sold at the Chicago Columbian Exposition in 1893, which was the first Worlds Fair. It is believed that they originally sold for $5.oo. By the end of the fair it is reported that they were selling for $1.oo each. Darrell
The book value of "The Columbian Calculator" by Almon Ticknor, published in 1846, would depend on its condition, rarity, and demand in the market. I recommend checking online marketplaces, antique bookstores, or contacting rare book dealers to get an estimate of its value. Keep in mind that factors like edition, provenance, and overall preservation of the book can also influence its book value.
