What kinds of clothes do you wear in Antarctica?

People in Antarctica wear thick gloves and mittens, thermal underwear, thick socks, turtle neck sweaters, wool sweaters, scarves, a balaclava, goggles, a special, long, down jacket with a fur-ruffed hood, special boots and more.

Thin multiple layers are worn so that there is plenty of air trapped between the layers, allowing the air to warm up and in turn, keep the wearer warm. You can get frost bite very easily, for it is the coldest and windiest place on the planet.

I am no expert, but from what I know, you need MANY layers! :P glove liners (as well as gloves), bootliners and boots, woollen mix socks, salopettes, a fleece shirt (important because fleece keeps the warm air in well), synthetic undergarments, a filed jacket, neck gaitor, a hat of some sort (2 hats isn't ott) and some goggles (not essential if you want to visit for just one day!)... as much of that as possible is a good idea as it is FREEZING there! lol

For indoor living, the buildings will be heated, and normal street clothing will suffice. but less of cotton and synthetics perhaps.

For outdoor work, you will probably be equipped by your employer/guides for the conditions expected. Lots of thermals, windproofs and quality footwear.

Always have a pee before you go out!

And make sure your camera will operate in low temperatures - and not all batteries will behave equally.
