The official language of Costa Rica is Spanish, but there are also speakers of English, some Chibchan languages (including Boruca and Bribri), Plautdietsch, and various dialects and creoles of those languages. Chorotega was once spoken there, but is now extinct. (Chibchan languages and Chorotega are indigenous to Central America, and Plautdietsch is distantly descended from German.)

Who explored Costa Rica?

I think Christopher Columbus first explored Costa Rica during his fourth voyage to the Americas in 1502. He landed near what is now Puerto Limón on the Caribbean coast. After Columbus, Spanish conquistadors, such as Gil González Dávila, further explored and attempted to colonize the region in the early 16th century. These early explorers were followed by missionaries and settlers who gradually developed the area, although Costa Rica was considered a remote and difficult region due to its mountainous terrain and resistance from indigenous peoples.
