This is a trick question. No part of mainland South America is farther west than about 82° West longitude (west coasts of Ecuador and Peru). New Orleans is at 30° N, 90° W.

However, on the equator at 90°W are the Galapagos Islands, part of Ecuador. Flying due south from New Orleans, you would cross the Yucatan Peninsula (Mexico), Guatemala, and extreme western El Salvador to reach the Pacific.
