Why did the government take away the indegounes australians to create the stolen generation?

The Idea of the stollen generation was to distroy aboriginal culture and mix the children with whites to the point where aboriginality would be dificult or imposible to distinguish. Australia had a pro white atitude and wanted to exclude all coloured people from our population.

The Australian Government's official explanation at the time was that it was necessary to remove the children form their communities to keep them from being harmed. Also the Government expressed concerns about Aboriginal children being exposed to 'immoral behaviour'. Basically, they were considered sub-human savages incapable of looking after their own children...which is a bit odd seeing as they'd managed fine for something like 60,000 years. The children were taken away to be trained as servants or in manual labour and put to use here and there, so perhaps having a source of labour both cheap and powerless was an additional motivation/bonus.

The main motivation was to 'de-Aboriginalise' the kids and assimilate the race into white society. The Aboriginal population was severely decimated after European settlement due to disease and us hunting them for sport or leisure, among other things. It was felt that the Aboriginal race was a dying race and the solution to this was assimilation. The various 'Aboriginal protection boards' in each state/territory either believed they were genuinely acting in the best interests of the Aboriginal people, or they were following what appeared to be an easy solution to a problem that was more annoying than tragic to them. A quote from the time, from one of the 'welfare' workers stated "No matter how acute their (the parents) grief may appear to be at the time of parting, they soon forget their children and there is no lasting harm done". They genuinely believed that Aboriginal people didn't have feelings as acute as white humans, being sub human savages and all...

I came here as an migrant in the late 1950's and I was told in school at the time that aboriginal children were taken away from their aboriginal parents in order to disrupt their primitive (stone age culture) and mix them with white people. the aim was to obliterate aboriginal culture. and the aboriginal race. The western white European was a very arrogant being and felt that it was their duty to change all cultures to be similar to their own. Needles to say that Australia had already shown that is posesed great mineral wealth and that a healthy cohesive indigenous society would mean extra expense to the extractors of this wealth. There is no doubt that this attitude paid of one only has to go into outback Australia to see the abject poverty disease and substance abuse brought about by this policy. Today Australian Aboriginals boast the shortest lifespan of any indigenous population in the world.
