That depends on the person and on the kind of pilgrimage. Pilgrimages are made in so many fashions nowadays, by car, bus and plane, though traditionally they are made on foot. Obviously, the physical feelings of being a pilgrim depend much on the means of conveyance. On foot, you'll feel tired, sweaty and footsore most likely... But spiritually, how it feels to be a pilgrim depends on your attitude. You can treat it just like any other trip and then it will feel just like an ordinary trip. If you think about and focus on your destination and its spiritual significance while travelling, it can be a very deep spiritual experience, even one that will affect you your whole life. When a pilgrimage is made on foot and without unnecessary distractions, like cell phones and ipods, it is very easy to remain so recollected, for the mere act of walking there reminds you of where you are going and why. Setting aside special time for such recollection and for prayer allows for spiritual growth that can be both wonderful and painful. From personal experience, such a pilgrimage is difficult but very good, and it can be joyful, sorrowful, awing and humbling all at once to finally reach your destination.
