The art of ancient Greece was influenced by the large amount of trade taking place between Greece, Egypt and the Near East. Human figures that had previously been painted during the Geometric Style period were thin and angular more like symbols or icons of human figures. The new influence s became known as Archaic Style. Under this new style human figures and animals took on more realistic shaping. The term used most often is that this styling is the Orientalizing phase of Greet art. The painting was less repetitive and predictable and the painting style was distinct by its filling in of solid black flat color. The art forms spread from amphorae and vase painting and small sculpture as was done during the previous Geometric period and blossomed into architecture and larger sculpture Paintings, pottery and sculpture of everyday life and mythology were frequent. During this period artists started to sign their work as well and some started to become famous for their talents.
