In order from west to east:

You can take the 1 train (of the 1-2-3, the red line) to Houston Street. This station is actually on Varick Street, between West Houston Street and King Street (the next street down).

You can take the A-C-E (the blue line) to West 4th Street, and then walk down to West Houston. It's just a few blocks. Depending on which exit you use, you will get out either on West 8th and 6th Avenue, West 4th and 6th Avenue, or West 3rd and 6th Avenue. Sixth Avenue intersects with West Houston, so just walk down 6th Avenue, until you reach Houston.

You can take the N or R (of the N-R-Q, the yellow line) to Prince Street. Prince Street is just a block south of West Houston.

You can take the B-D-F-M to Broadway-Lafayette, at the middle of Houston Street (where West Houston turns into East Houston).

You can take the 6 train (of the 4-5-6, the green line) to Bleeker Street. Bleeker Street is just a block north of East Houston.

You can take the J-Z (the brown line) to the Bowery, 3 blocks south of East Houston.

You can take the F train (of the B-D-F-M, the orange line) to 2nd Avenue-Houston Street (East Houston).
