The East Indians were brought to Trinidad in 1845 by the British colonial government. This migration was part of a labor scheme to replace the workforce lost after the abolition of slavery in 1834. The first group of indentured laborers arrived on the ship Fatel Razack, marking the beginning of a significant East Indian presence in Trinidad. This migration continued until 1917, with a total of approximately 147,000 individuals brought to the island.
