The flora that grow in these forests are considered sacred, and can remain untouched for countless centuries. Some of the oldest trees in these wooded areas are over seven thousand years old, reaching heights of over one hundred-fifty feet.

There are a wide variety of trees in these forests, including - but not limited to - oak, pine, cypress, cedar and maple trees.

There are also fruiting trees, such as the ume (also known as the Japanese plum) and the very popular sakura(cherry tree), which are very popular for their blooms.
