The Milwaukee outbreak was caused by a protozoan parasite called Cryptosporidium. Many people with decent immune systems recovered quickly, but people with AIDS (weak immune system) couldn't recover quickly. There were half-million people infected in the south-west part of Milwaukee. It killed 101 people, mostly people with AIDS. The symptoms of Crytosporidiuim are severe diarhea & painful stomach cramps. The outbreak was caused by a parasitic cloud caused by human feces. The chlorine treatment wasn't enough to penetrate its defensive coating (cyst form) so after the outbreak they started using ozone to kills the bacteria & parasites such as Cryptosporidium.

What caused the 1991 cholera outbreak in LimaPeru?

The 1991 cholera outbreak in Lima, Peru, was primarily caused by the contamination of water supplies with the Vibrio cholerae bacterium, linked to inadequate sanitation and poor public health infrastructure. The outbreak was exacerbated by the El Niño phenomenon, which led to heavy rains and flooding, further contaminating water sources. Rapid urbanization and the influx of people into slums without proper sanitation facilities also contributed to the spread of the disease.
