The plains indians experienced a variety of climates, since the Great Plains sit at the intersection of a lot of air masses and currents. During the winter, the air is very cold, but the summer brings warmer, moist air up from the south. Summer is the rainiest season, with unstable, warm air masses coming up from the Gulf and causing storms on the plains.
