Operation Desert Storm
The US launched Operation Desert Storm because of Kuwait's annexation and Iraq's invasion. The war began in 1990 and ended in 1991.

The US and UK justified the invasion of Iraq during the Persian Gulf War primarily by citing Iraq's invasion of Kuwait in August 1990, which they viewed as a violation of international law and a threat to regional stability. They argued that Iraq's aggression posed a risk to global oil supplies and economic security. Additionally, the coalition forces claimed the need to protect the sovereignty of Kuwait and to enforce United Nations resolutions demanding Iraq's withdrawal.
There were two major issues at play: 1) Kuwait, like all nations, is entitled to national sovereignty which Iraq rudely crushed by the might of its army. 3) Kuwait has a large quantity of oil and the United States needs oil.
To remove Iraq from Kuwait; which was done.
The United States had previously supplied Iraq with supplies during the Iran-Iraq War, including missiles, tanks, airplanes, etc. These supplies were put to use again in the Persian Gulf War of 1990-1991, but the United States was opposed to Iraq in that war and did not supply Iraq additionally for its invasion of Kuwait.
