Answer 1A little hard to say because some are not in existence anymore, but also it depends on what is considered a denomination. Byzantium was the first of an Empire to embrace Christianity. But before that the, Coptic people of Egypt and Ethiopia evolved separately from the less organized European Christians. Remember Philip baptised an Ethiopian (noting this is the first convert recorded who Jesus didn't touch personally) from that eunuch came the first distinct group of Christians. Then should we mention the first Christian nation's church of Armenia called the Gregorian Church named for Saint Gregory who was a missionary to the Armenians during the time of Peter and Paul. There were early missionary orders that went to India and China called the Syrian Christians and the Nestorians (who supposedly brought the swastika symbol of good luck to Tibet). Do we call Gnostics a denomination? There were gnostics here and there popping up in history which have been thought to be contradictory to the Christian beliefs of Jesus being the Christ and that God is infallible.
