The Zimmerman Telegram.
They were trying to turn Mexico against America.
there isn't a single answer but here is a couple of reasons: 1)we intercepted a letter to Mexico from Germany trying to persuade Mexico to attack US and Germany would return TX and other land we took from Mexico. 2)we knew if Britain fell against Germany that they would come after us next 3)Germany attack unarmed US supply ships with their U-Boats and us civil non supply and non military boats
The Zimmerman Telegram.
If Germany did not have to fight on two separate fronts, they could focus all their efforts on defeating the enemy on only one front. Therefore, success would come easily. In addition, Germany was trying to convince Mexico to attack America. If they had the extra forces ( FROM ONLY FIGHTING ON ONE FRONT )they would have landed in Mexico to SPEED AND HELP ATTACK the Southern US, as well as attack the American East Coast directly themselves, as soon as possible.
it was practically trying to stop relations between Mexico and the u.s. it was made by Germany
we learned Germany was trying to get Mexico to go to war with out from the south side.
The U.S government decided to join World War 1 for two main reasons. Firstly, Germany was trying to get Mexico to attack America. Secondly, the Germans unrestricted submarine warfare which meant the Germans could attack any ship they thought was carrying food to Britain.
2 main reasons. Germany kept sinking ships with Americans on them (such as RMS Lusitania). And Germany plotted with Mexico to conquer parts of US and give land back to Mexico.
Faulty intelligence reports stating that Germany was supplying Mexico with weapons to attack the US (see Invasion of Veracruz).Pancho Villa's attack on Columbus, New Mexico (see Punitive Expedition).
The British intercepted a telegram sent from Germany to Mexico asking the Mexicans to attack the U.S. if the U.S. got involved in WWI. They promised the Mexicans money and a return of AZ, CA, NM territory lost by the Mexicans to the U.S. in the Mexican American War of 1846-8. Mexico considered it, after all, they did not like the U.S. or Wilson, but were more afraid of the U.S. than Germany. Plus, Germany is 1000s of miles away... it was one of the factors that helped bring us into the war.
There were many reasons that had a hand in pulling the US into WW1. In 1915 Germany attacked the US ship Lusitania, and many people were mad about that. President Wilson declared neutrality, but he continued to trade war material with Great Britain and the Allies. Germany continued unrestricted submarine warfare despite Wilson's warning. Finally the US found about the Zimmerman Program between Germany and Mexico, which was basically Germany trying to convince Mexico to attack the US. This was the final push for the US to enter WW1 in 1917.
German submarines were attacking all ships near Europe, even those from neutral nations or carrying passengers from neutral nations. The US also discovered that Germany was trying to persuade Mexico to join the Central Powers and attack the US to regain land Mexico lost in wars against the US.
